SHIMANA SHSEIR005 is a non-expensive, easy to use infrared thermometer that uses infrared technology to quickly and conveniently measure the surface temperature of objects.

It has an emissivity fixed at 0.95 (which will cover 90% of typical applications) and a field of view of 8:1. If the infrared thermometer is 8 inches from the target, the diameter of the object under test must be at least 1 inch. The laser is used for aiming purposes only

For higher non-contact temperature measurements please see the Shimana 1050°C Infrared Laser Thermometer. All these infrared thermometers are sold in Canada by ProcessInstruments.ca.

how to use an infrared thermometer

Holding the meter by its handle, point the IR Gun Sensor toward the object whose temperature is to be measured. The meter automatically compensates for temperature deviations from ambient temperature. Keep in mind that it will take 30 min to adjust to wide ambient temperatures. Several minutes are required after a low temperature is measured before a high temperature can be measured. This is a result of the cooling process which must take place for the IR sensor.

Always make sure that the target is larger than the unit's spot size. The smaller the target, the closer you should be to it. When accuracy is critical, make sure the target is at least twice as large as the spot size.

Most (90% of typical applications) organics materials and painted or oxidized surfaces have an emissivity of 0.95 (pre-set in this infrared thermometer). Inaccurate readings will result from measuring shiny or polished metal surfaces. To compensate, cover the surface to be measured with masking tape or flat black paint and allow time for them to reach the same temperature as the material underneath.

NOTE: SHSEIR005 is the direct replacement for Shimana SE-DT-880 ir laser thermometer.

Need to have this new Shimana SHSEIR005 Infrared Thermometer (500°C/8:1) calibrated? While this gauge has passed a quality control check, having a calibration certificate for infrared thermometers might be required by your quality control system. Digital Measurement Metrology (owner of ProcessInstruments.ca) is a canadian metrology company with more than 25 years of experience. Our Brampton, Ontario based calibration lab has one of the most comprehensive ISO 17025 accredited calibration scope in Canada.

Do you have an old Shimana gauge to be calibrated? We might be able to calibrate Shimana infrared thermometers (Shimana SHSEIR005 or a different model) and provide an ISO, NIST traceable calibration certificate. Please contact our metrology lab for more info.
